Plymouth boss Derek Adams has revealed that the club will not be signing free agent Joe Mason after he turned down an offer from the League One side.

The 27-year-old came through the ranks at the Pilgrims and played over 50 times for them before earning a move to Cardiff City.

And, Adams wanted to bring the player back to Home Park after he recently left Wolves.

However, the Argyle manager told the BBC that Mason has offers on the table from elsewhere and that the club have moved on.

"He has offers from other clubs in our division and the division below. We put an offer to him, but it's not going to happen for us.

"I spoke to the agent and he has better offers in other places."

Mason's career has stalled since he made a relatively big-money move to Molineux back in 2016.

He scored just seven goals in 39 appearances for Wanderers and has spent the last few years out on loan, including a spell in the MLS with Colorado Rapids and with Portsmouth earlier this season.

The Verdict

Plymouth could do with another option in the final third and bringing in Mason appeared as though it would be a good fit.

He would have got regular game time and it's a club he knows very well.

But, it's not to be and you have to respect the players decision if Adams is saying he has got better offers elsewhere and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
