Plymouth Argyle manager Ryan Lowe has revealed that lots of players are wanting to sign for his side in the January transfer window.

Lowe and his assistant, Steven Schumacher, are already checking out potential targets with the transfer window just six weeks away, the pair both running the rule over Everton under-23s as they faced Plymouth's youngsters in a Premier League Cup tie on Sunday.

The pair have also run the rule over Middlesbrough under-23s and Blackburn Rovers' under-23s in a Premier League Cup game last Friday, while Schumacher also attended the Bristol City under-23s vs Cardiff City under-23s on Monday afternoon.

Lowe said via Plymouth Live: "The opportunities arise all the time, but while they could be a good footballer they have got to be the right fit.

"They have got to want to come and play for Argyle. They have got to want to buy into what we are doing, and be able to play the way we want to play.

“Our eyes and ears are open 24/7 especially now it’s starting to get a bit busy.

“People are asking ‘Do you want this, do you want that?’ Agents are on the phone.

“But one thing I can say is there is a lot of people that are raving about us and talking about us for the right reasons and want to come and join the ride, so for me that’s very pleasing.”

Plymouth's squad has had to deal with two departures in recent days, 19-year-old midfielder Cameron Sangster choosing to quit football so that he can concentrate on his independent business, and Jose Baxter seeing his short-term contract cancelled because of recent injuries.

The Pilgrims will be looking to add to their squad in January as they seek a promotion push in the second half of the season, currently sat 13th in the table but are just four points off the play-offs as they look for an immediate return to League One.

The Verdict

Plymouth play some easy-on-the-eye football, and the management pair of Lowe and Schumacher appear to have been running their eye over some of the talent in under-23 sides of Premier League and Championship clubs.

Players within those squads will be better equipped to deal with the style that the Pilgrims like to play, and it is obvious to see just why going to Plymouth is in demand.
