‘Please stop’ – Swansea man comes in for ribbing on social media

Bersant Celina had a golden chance to put his Swansea back into their match against West Brom last night.

The Baggies led 1-0 thanks to an early Chris Brunt goal but, just before half-time, Swansea were awarded a spot kick. It’s a free hit from 12 yards, where nothing less than a shot on target will do.

Occasionally, a player might strike a post or blaze over, but the absolute prerequisite for taking a penalty is an effort that makes its way towards goal.

Sadly, Celina didn’t manage that. He took a run up, slipped and chipped the ball one yard to the right.

The Baggies defence had cleared before the second bounce and the chance was gone. The Swans ended up losing 3-0, but the result is almost inconsequential after such a horrific moment.

Fans from across the football world have been on Twitter this morning, laughing and crying at the horror moment. You can read a selection of their responses below.
