“Please not Marriott or Maddison” – Peterborough fans react to owner’s cryptic transfer update

Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony sparked a frenzy on social media today when he tweeted that there would be some upcoming transfer news.

While he gave little away initially, he included a crying face emoji, prompting fears that it could be bad news for Posh fans.

Many feared that one or both of their dynamic duo – Marcus Maddison and Jack Marriott – could be on their way out of the ABAX Stadium.

Marriott, who has 17 league goals this term, and assist king Maddison have both been attracting interest from a number of Championship sides, including Leeds United.

Since that tweet, MacAnthony has announced the signing of Crewe Alexandra wonderkid George Cooper on a three and a half year deal for a “serious undisclosed fee”.

In his pre-amble to announcing this signing, he made a point to note that Cooper was second to Maddison in terms of assists but hinted that his arrival could spell Maddison’s exit.

Here are how Posh fans reacted to his initial tweet.
