Sunderland will find out who they face in their League One opening day game this week as the EFL release fixture lists for the new season.

The Black Cats narrowly missed out on promotion to the Championship, a late goal from Patrick Bauer enough to beat them in the play-off final.

That's condemned them to another season in the third tier, the first time they've had successive seasons out of the top two divisions in their history.

Whilst they enjoyed moderate success last campaign, an EFL Trophy final and the play-off final, it has to be classed as a failure without promotion or silverware to show for their endeavour.

That's reflected in the comments on the club's announcement of fixture day yesterday. They promoted Thursday's release on Twitter, but it seems fans are more interested in who the club might sign, rather than who they play.

Whilst there is some optimism around the Stadium of Light, these comments show an undercurrent of unhappiness at both the division they're in and their failure to get out of it.

Perhaps, by the end of the week, a takeover and new signing might have placated the general unease exhibited on these posts.
