The Czech Republic produced the upset of Euro 2020 so far by knocking out the Netherlands yesterday and many Bristol City fans have been full of praise for Tomas Kalas after he became the first EFL player to reach the quarter-finals of this year's tournament.

The Robins skipper and centre-back has been ever-present at the heart of his the Czech backline during this tournament – helping them concede just twice as they finished second to England in Group D.

Kalas produced another outstanding display in the round of 16 game yesterday, helping his side keep a clean sheet against a free-scoring Dutch side and providing a brilliant assist for Tomáš Holeš' 68th-minute opener.

Given the pace of Netherlands starting forwards Memphis Depay and Donyell Malen, it looked as though Sunday's game could be a difficult matchup for the centre-back but as he has for City all season he fought hard to keep them out.

Kalas finished with five clearances, one interception and one tackle, as well as winning six of his 10 aerial duels (Sofascore) but his assist for the Czech's opener was arguably his greatest contribution.

The 28-year-old's towering header allowed Holeš to put the underdogs ahead in the 68th minute, while Patrik Schick doubled their lead with 10 minutes left of normal time.

The result means Kalas is the EFL player to reach the quarter-finals of this year's tournament, with Denmark now standing in their way of a semi-final place.

City supporters may have got used to dominant displays like yesterday's over the past few years but it seems they were still impressed, with many taking to Twitter to voice their thoughts...
