Massimo Luongo is ending his season early in order to prepare for the World Cup.
The Australian midfielder has been one of QPR’s top performers this season, which has seen him linked away from the club.
QPR fans are hoping he stays because his development has been clear to see in his three seasons at the club, but they could get a sizeable fee if he does move away.
He will be playing in the World Cup because he is regularly in Australia’s starting XI, so he has decided to finish the season early, with the consent of his manager, in order to ensure he is properly prepared for it as well as ensuring he avoids injury as much as possible.
It’s a sensible decision considering the club is safe and has little to play for. However, it sparked a mixed reaction from fans because he could have played his last game for the club and some fans weren’t happy that he’s decided to prioritise his country over his domestic commitments.
This is the original tweet from Luongo:
After speaking to the manager and club, we have decided to end my season now and for me to recharge in preparation for the WC. This season has had its ups and downs but would like to thank all the @QPRFC fans for their continued support. See you next season! pic.twitter.com/KJyEvq7VYd

Hugely disrespectful for QPR fans and @BCFC and the other sides at the foot of the table. Very poor form.
