Mansfield Town lost out in the League Two play-off semi-final yesterday, going out on penalties against Newport County.

The Stags have been vying for a top three position all season and only lost out on the final day as they failed to hold MK Dons at Stadium MK.

That meant a play-off berth and despite finished fourth, they slipped out against the side who snuck into seventh, Newport County.

With two matches of the season remaining, Newport were 11th but now there's just the final to compete, they're at Wembley and the Stags are not. It's a bitter blow for chairman John Radford and his side who have speculated heavily on promotion this season.

They brought in Nicky Ajose, Tyler Walker and Jorge Grant to boost their hopes of a League One place, but it was Walker who missed the crucial penalty last night. Grant didn't come on until the dying stages and hasn't been an effective signing.

Walker bagged 22 goals in the league, but couldn't find the net from 18-yards and that has cost the Stags a promotion.

Chairman John Radford issued a passionate message on social media following the loss, but it's been met with some calls to sack manager David Flitcroft, as you'll see from the replies below.
