The Sky Bet Football League managers and players of the month for December have been announced.
Players of the month
Championship: Danny Drinkwater – Leicester City
Drinkwater has been influential during the Foxes’ season, scoring four goals and also claiming many assists for Nigel Pearson’s side.
League One: Sam Saunders – Brentford FC
After scoring five goals in 16 league games and claiming nine assists in all competitions, the Bees midfielder is a worthy winner.
League Two: Deon Burton – Scunthorpe United
After scoring four goals in the Iron’s last five games, veteran striker Burton has without doubt found his scoring boots over the Christmas period.
Managers of the month
Championship: Steve McClaren – Derby County
With the Rams only losing one of their last ten games, Steve McClaren has proved himself as a man who knows what he’s doing. Derby sit in fourth after their recent good form.
League One: Mark Warburton – Brentford FC
Mark Warburton’s first managerial appointment was handed to him after Uwe Rosler left the London club to move up north to Wigan Athletic. Warburton’s men are unbeaten in their last ten games, not dropping points on one occasion after a goalless draw against Midlands side Wolverhampton Wanderers.
League Two: Mark Yates – Cheltenham Town
After taking charge in 2009, Mark Yates has endured two play-off defeats – beaten by Crewe at Wembley in the 2011-12 season, and losing both legs against Northampton in the last campaign. Cheltenham have only lost one of their last ten.
