Salford City are keen to hold talks with Ben Marshall about a possible move to the League Two side for the winger, a report from a print edition of the Sun on Sunday (29/09, p61) has claimed.

Marshall is a free agent after leaving newly-promoted Premier League Norwich City at the end of last season, despite having only joined them permanently from Wolves the summer before.

The 28-year-old did however struggle to make an impact at Carrow Road, featuring just six times in all competitions for the Canaries before joining Millwall for a second loan spell in the latter half of the season.

It is now thought that Salford are eyeing a move for the winger, as they look to strengthen their squad for the remainder of the League Two season.

So far, it has been a difficult start to life in the Football League for Graham Alexander's side following their promotion from the National League last season.

The Ammies have won two and drawn five of their opening 11 league games this season, leaving them 18th in the League Two standings following their 4-0 thrashing by Forest Green Rovers on Saturday.

The Verdict

What a signing this would be for Salford.

Marshall has plenty of experience at Championship level, so I don't think there is any doubt that he would be able to an impact were he to make the step down to League Two.

This would therefore give Salford a big lift as they look to find their feet in the Football League, after what has been a stuttering start to life in the EFL, despite many of the lofty pre-season expectations.

At 28-years-old, Marshall still has plenty of time left in his career, so he may not want to make the step down to the fourth tier just yet, although you feel he could eventually be tempted by the move in order to extend his spell as a player, if no other offers come in for him.
