Ipswich Town are set to lose Toto Nsiala on a permanent move, according to TWTD

The defender is closing in on a move to League One rivals Fleetwood Town.

Nsiala is out of contract with Ipswich at the end of the season, making him available to negotiate a pre-contract with any other club this January.

Ipswich initially triggered a one-year option in his contract last May but that is now set to expire.

It was initially thought that Nsiala was set to leave for Fleetwood on an initial loan deal, but it is now looking more likely to be a permanent deal.

The 29-year old signed with the club in 2018, by Paul Hurst. He arrived from Hurst’s former club Shrewsbury. Nsiala made 71 appearances with the club since his arrival and spent a stint with Bolton Wanderers on loan during the 2019/20 season.

Ipswich Town are currently 10th in the League One table. Kieran McKenna’s side have won their last two league games, which has brought the club within an outside chance of the play-off places.

There is an eight point gap between themselves and sixth place Oxford United.

McKenna’s side next face Bolton on January 15 in their next league game.

The Verdict

Ipswich are struggling financially to meet the criteria to be able to sign anyone this January, so the departure of Nsiala should help free up some funds.

This is McKenna’s first window since arriving from Manchester United in December. Preferably he would be able to bring in some signings of his own. To do that they need to earn some money somehow and this is the quickest and simplest way to do so.

Nsiala will be looking for more game time with Fleetwood. He has only appeared 11 times so far in the league this campaign for Ipswich.
