Player shows commitment to Aston Villa following transfer breakdown

Jack Grealish is preparing for Aston Villa’s clash with Wigan Athletic on Saturday, despite his disappointment that a move to Tottenham hasn’t materialised over the past few days.

It looked inevitable that Grealish would be departing this summer, however, yesterday, news broke that the midfielder would be remaining at Villa Park this summer, with a move to Spurs not happening.

Gregg Evans from the Birmingham Mail has provided an update this morning, confirming that Grealish is disappointed, but will not kick up a fuss and is currently preparing for the clash with Wigan this weekend at Villa Park.

It is expected that Villa will offer Grealish a new contract now, with the 22-year-old to be offered enhanced terms.

Grealish was influential for Steve Bruce’s side last season, as they finished fourth in the Championship and reached the play-off final.

Failure to win promotion seemed like it would end Grealish’s spell with his boyhood club, however, the midfielder featured in Villa’s first game of the season at Hull City on Monday, as Bruce’s side secured a 3-1 victory.

The midfielder played 83 minutes of Monday’s contest, and will now be looking to help Bruce’s side to a second three points of the season when Wigan visit Villa Park on Saturday.

The Verdict

It’s disappointing for Grealish that he isn’t going to get a shot at the Premier League, but his attitude and commitment to Villa can’t be questioned.

He’s so committed to his boyhood club, and you guarantee that when the transfer window closes, he will be fully focused on helping Villa into promotion contention again.
