QPR have confirmed that defender Geoff Cameron has returned to the club from Stoke City on a permanent basis, following his loan spell with the Championship side last season.

Cameron spent the whole of last season on loan at Loftus Road, making 19 appearances in all competitions for the London based club, scoring once in a 1-1 draw with Derby County in October.

Having returned to Stoke at the end of the season, the American was one of a number players to be told they were not in the plans of manager Nathan Jones, who is keen to implement an overhaul of his squad at the bet365 Stadium.

With Cameron out of the picture at the Potters, the 34-year-old has now sealed his return to QPR, signing a one-year deal with the option of a further 12 months.

Speaking to Rangers' official website following confirmation of his return, Cameron said: "It's great to be back.

"I really enjoyed my time here last year - it's a family orientated-environment and this move is the best fit for me and my family."

QPR boss Mark Warburton, who only took over this summer following Cameron's brief return to Stoke, also discussed the new signing, as he added: "Geoff is someone who knows the club.

"He brings experience to the group and he also brings Premier League quality.

"We're delighted to welcome Geoff back to QPR."

Cameron becomes QPR's tenth signing of the summer transfer window, and, in a quirk of the fixture computer, Rangers' first competitive game following Cameron's return will be away to none other than Stoke City.

The Verdict

This seems like a smart move from QPR.

Cameron was a popular player around the club during his first spell at Loftus Road, so this transfer looks set to be one that will go down well with the Rangers faithful.

This however will be about more than winning favour with their fans for QPR, with Cameron's experience and ability arguably proving a decent addition for the club in the coming campaign, as they look to improve on that 19th place finish in the Championship last season.

QPR have been busy throughout the summer window, and the improvements they have made to their squad should give them confidence that they can keep their heads above water again this season at the very least.
