Jack Harrison has withdrawn from the England Under-21s squad due to picking up an injury, Middlesbrough have confirmed.

The 21-year-old joined on loan from Manchester City in January, but has seen his chances limited with just two league appearances.

He has plenty of potential, though, which can be seen by the fact that he is in the U21 squad as well as being at Manchester City.

This loan spell may not have gone as he hoped so far, but it was always going to be hard to convince Tony Pulis to play him consistently in the first-team considering his preference for experience.

There is also the fact that Adama Traore has been impressing so Pulis is unlikely to risk having two young wingers in the team due to their negative effect on the defensive shape which he prioritises.

However, he could play a role in the end of the season as well as the play-offs if he can recover quickly from this abdominal strain.

The Verdict

This is an unfortunate time of the season to pick up an injury, but it's unlikely to be anything too major. It makes his task of getting into the first-team much harder, though, because of how the games increase in importance as the season progresses.

He certainly has the talent to make a case for playing in the first-team, so he needs to use the rest of the season wisely once he returns from this injury.
