Cardiff City have revealed the news that defender Greg Cunningham has returned to The Cardiff City Stadium as he continues his injury rehabilitation.

The experienced defender went on loan to Blackburn Rovers at the start of the season, but suffered a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament in October that ruled him out for the rest of the season.

The 28-year-old featured in ten games for the Bluebirds before his injury, and will now look to recover under the watchful eye of the Cardiff City medical staff and manager Neil Harris for the next few months.

Cunningham's injury has come at a poor time for the Bluebirds, with them being light on left-back cover across the past few months, Joe Bennett currently being the only senior option on the left of defence at the club.

The 29-year-old has recently spoken out about the potential of a new left-back arriving at the club to challenge him for his place, stating that he would welcome the added competition for a spot in the starting XI.

When Bennett was ruled out for a couple of games a few weeks ago with an eye injury, right-back Jazz Richards deputised in his place.

The Verdict

Cardiff have done the right thing by bringing Cunningham back to the club for the rest of his recovery period, after Blackburn would have done all they could to help him.

The Bluebirds can now keep a watchful eye on the defender themselves, as he eyes up a return to action later on this calendar year from his injury.
