Sheffield United's latest summer signing Ciaran Clark has sent a message to supporters after his loan move from Newcastle United was confirmed earlier this week.

Clark's St James' Park exit has been signposted for some time now – with Middlesbrough and Stoke City also linked with the centre-back – but he has signed for the Blades on a season-long loan deal to bolster Paul Heckingbottom's defensive options.

The 32-year-old has taken to Twitter to send to supporters of both the Championship club and Newcastle after announcement of his move, which looks to have brought the end of his Magpies career with his contract there set to expire at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

The defender arrives with plenty of high level experience – having won 36 caps for the Republic of Ireland and made more than 200 appearances in the Premier League during his time at both Newcastle and Aston Villa.

Clark is the Blades' third signing of the summer and second defensive reinforcement with Anel Ahmedhodzic joining from Malmo.

The Verdict

This is a strong addition from United's perspective and his message to supporters shows that he's raring to get going.

Clark has been a bit-part player at Newcastle in recent years so will be hungry to establish himself in the Blades' starting XI.

You only have to look at the responses to the defender's message to the Toon Army to appreciate what a well-respected player he was at the North East club – and that bodes really well for his time at Bramall Lane.

Should things go well over the next 10 months or so, United should be well placed to snap him up on a free transfer next summer as well.
