Leeds United are closing in on the signing of striker Tyler Roberts who is expected to join the club from West Brom for a fee that could rise to £4m.

The highly-rated youngster has spent the first part of the season on loan at Walsall where he managed five goals in 17 games.

He has since returned to the Premier League side who have agreed a deal with Leeds for the 19-year old who is out of contract at the end of the season.

And, Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay has revealed that Roberts has now passed a medical with the Championship side and the deal will be announced once the formalities have been complete.

Boss Thomas Christiansen has been on the lookout for a striker for most of the month with Leeds struggling in front of goal in recent weeks.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga hasn’t managed to deliver consistent performances whilst Caleb Ekuban has been restricted to just six Championship appearances so far because of injury.

Therefore, Roberts will give Christiansen a much-needed additional option up top.

The Verdict

Whether Tyler Roberts makes a big impact this season remains to be seen but there’s no doubt that Leeds have signed a player with huge potential.

There was plenty of interest from clubs much higher up than Leeds and those behind the deal deserve credit for seemingly bringing him to Elland Road.

The latest update will please fans and it appears that confirmation of the signing will come later today.
