Leeds United have been linked with a number of players in the January transfer window.

However it seems that one could be heading for the exit door.

Football Insider has reported that Lewie Coyle could be ready to leave Elland Road when the transfer market opens.

The defender is out of contract at the end of the season and after failing to break into Marcelo Bielsa's plans, it seems like the writing is on the wall regarding his long-term future at the club.

Coyle has spent the last three seasons on loan at Fleetwood Town, and it's been reported that the League One side are keen to make his loan move permanent in a bid to secure a deal.

The 24-year-old will be free to discuss terms with other clubs regarding a free transfer next summer, but Joey Barton's side appear keen to beat potential rivals to his signature.

Coyle's loan spell is due to expire next month, however the hope will be that a deal can be agreed to make the move permanent, or at least extend it to the end of the season.

The full-back has made 110 appearances for Fleetwood Town in total, including starting all 16 of their league matches this term.

The verdict

Lewie Coyle looks to have no future at Leeds United, so a January move certainly makes sense.

The 24-year-old has established himself as a regular first team player during his three years with Fleetwood Town and that means it's no surprise that they're keen to make a move permanent.

If that can be done, it could be good business for the League One side.
