Bolton Wanderers' Luca Connell has spoken to Irish outlet The 42 about the prospect of joining Celtic.

The 20-year-old is reportedly attracting the attention of several clubs, but Celtic are believed to be the frontrunners currently.

Southampton, Norwich and Preston have also been linked with the defender previously, but Connell has stated he is just happy to go anywhere where he'll be played regularly.

Speaking to The 42, Connell said: “Anywhere would appeal if it was a good move and it was right for me and I enjoyed it.

“It has been busy [this summer]. There have been quite a few teams involved, but teams come and go by the day.

“Obviously, everyone knows about Celtic. It’s a massive club. It’d be an honour to represent them if that’s what the final decision was. I just want to make sure that I’m playing wherever I go."

From what Connell says, it is certain he will be leaving Bolton this summer, and it is likely his future will become clearer once he returns from international duty with Ireland u19s.

The Verdict

It is refreshing to see a young player setting game time as a priority for the next club he joins. Too often players jump at the chance to join a big club without thinking it through, and are later released or sold with little to no game time.

A club like Celtic must be very appealing to Connell, and he would be forgiven for making his mind up quickly and deciding he wants to go there. Instead, he is remaining level-headed and insists he will only join if there is a guarantee to give him a first team role.

That attitude should serve him well in his career, he puts his progression first and if he continues with that mindset he should develop into a very accomplished defender.
