Leeds United took a significant step towards the Premier League on Saturday as they beat Sheffield Wednesday after promotion rivals Sheffield United had dropped two points earlier in the day.

The Whites have been fantastic under Marcelo Bielsa, who has transformed the club since he was appointed.

However, it's not just at first-team level where you can clearly see how Leeds have improved over the past 12 months.

Under Carlos Corberan, the U23 side have been superb too, with Bielsa prepared to give many youngsters a chance in with the senior squad to reward their form.

The likes of Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Jamie Shackleton and Jack Clarke have all played important roles this season, with the Argentinian boss proving that if you're good enough, you're old enough under his guidance.

Therefore, Ryan Edmondson could be the next in line to make the step up, with the 17-year-old making a big impression for Corberan's side this season.

He has been in terrific form and continued that with a goal in the 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace earlier today.

Bielsa praised the teenager last week, which will have been a major boost for the player and those above him in the pecking order will be aware he is close to making the step up.

Despite his age, Leeds fans have had a glimpse of the former York player in the past as he has made two league appearances since joining.

That highlights the undoubted potential and pleasingly for the club he is starting to fulfil it.

As Bielsa touched on, his all-round game is continuing to improve and he has always been someone who knows where the back of the net is.

They say that strong competition for places is healthy at clubs and the likes of Patrick Bamford and Kemar Roofe will know that Bielsa will turn to the in-form, talented Edmondson if don't maintain their high standards.

Whilst it's unlikely that will be before the end of the season, moving forwards Leeds know they have a quality player coming through and Edmondson will feel his time is coming.
