Bristol City are one of many onlookers' tips to get into the top six race again this season after a couple of years flirting with those play-off places.

In 2017/18 they eventually ran out of steam - in part thanks to their miraculous EFL Cup journey - whilst last year saw them stay the course for the whole season but they were pipped by Derby.

They will, however, be hopeful that with the right signings coming into the club they can go again and make it into the top six under Lee Johnson in 2019/20.

On the flipside of that, though, we've seen a player leave Ashton Gate today - Jake Andrews is off to Torquay United.

The player was perhaps a little shy of what was needed to force himself into first-team plans at the Robins' place, but in Torquay he is re-joining a club on the comeback trail - he spent last season on loan there and will want to carry on the good work he put in at Plainmoor.

Indeed, he'll also again be linking up with the father of his former permanent boss, as he joins Gary from Lee Johnson on a full-time deal:

The men from Plainmoor will be hoping Andrews can help them in their quest to return to the Football League, then.

The Verdict

This seems a signing that should work for all parties.

Andrews wants to get playing now and it should be a move that he can get to grips with quickly.

Indeed, he was their last season on loan as the Gulls earned promotion from National League South into the National League whilst Bristol and Torquay - though not direct rivals - are in close enough proximity to one another.

The Robins' fans, meanwhile, will hope to see some permanent deals coming in sooner rather than later.
