According to reports from Bedfordshire News, Andrew Shinnie has admitted that he thinks his Birmingham City career is over.

The attacking midfielder who joined Birmingham on a free transfer back in 2013 is spending the 2017/18 campaign on loan at Luton Town, and is hoping for a permanent move come to the end of his contract with the Blues.

Despite this, the player has denied any allegations that this loan move is all about putting himself ‘in the shop window’ for other clubs to see.

He stated that “It's not really about shop windows or putting myself out there, I just wanted to come here and be a part of Luton”.

Shinnie spent last season on loan at Scottish Championship side Hibernian FC and contributed to 7 goals in his 27 league appearances for the club.

Three loan spells in the last three years and the 28-year-old can be forgiven for thinking his time with Harry Redknapp’s side is over.

The Scot has gotten off to a flying start in League Two with three assists in three games, two of which came on the opening day demolition of Yeovil that finished 8-2.

Luton currently find themselves in third place on goal difference after three games and will look to build on their good start when they travel to mid-table Mansfield next weekend.

The Verdict

The Championship might be a step too far for Andrew Shinnie.

He has failed to make any kind of real impact since his arrival at Birmingham four years ago and his subsequent loan spells haven't shown much either.

Dropping down to League Two, we could now start seeing the best out of the attacking midfielder and he may have finally found his level.

If his positive start continues at Luton then it would be no surprise to see the club try and make the loan deal permanent and it is doubtful that Harry Redknapp would put up much of a fight to keep the player.
