Norwich City have today confirmed that midfielder Ben Godfrey has signed a new deal with the club - extending his stay by a further year.

The young midfielder was on loan at Shrewsbury Town last season where he impressed.

For much of the campaign, the Shrews were League One title contenders under Paul Hurst and it was only the play-off final that proved a step too far for them in their quest to get to the second tier.

With that in mind, then, Godfrey will be looking to prove that he at least is good enough for the Championship and he should get the chance sooner or later.

An extension deal has been signed, then, with him adding a year onto his current deal:

Norwich have seen the likes of James Maddison and Josh Murphy leave the club recently but the arrival of Jordan Rhodes should excite.

And, if Godfrey continues his progression, he could be the next young hero at the club.

The Verdict

This is good to see.

Godfrey is a talented midfielder with plenty to offer and Norwich appear well aware of that.

He's got a good footballing brain in the middle of the park and Daniel Farke shouldn't hesitate to use him if he impresses in training.
