Player close to leaving Liverpool with club set to finalise agreement

Reading are expected to complete the signing of Liverpool’s Ovie Ejaria on a six-month loan, with the midfielder having a medical today.

The 21-year-old had spent the first part of the campaign with Rangers and featured regularly as Steven Gerrard’s side progressed to the Europa League group stage.

However, it was announced in mid-December that the agreement with the Glasgow giants would be cut short.

And, The Sun have now revealed a loan to the Royals is imminent, with Ejaria set to link up with Jose Gomes’ side for the remainder of the season.

The England U21 international will be joining a side that are in a major relegation battle, with the Berkshire side five points from safety.

Therefore, they will be hoping the creative midfielder makes an immediate impact should the deal go through as expected and he could make his debut against Nottingham Forest at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday.

Ejaria will be arriving with Championship experience, as he had a loan spell with Sunderland this time last year that ultimately resulted in relegation to League One for the Black Cats.

The Verdict

This seems like a good move for Reading as Ejaria has a lot of potential and has the technique to suit the style of play that Gomes demands.

Despite the poor league form, there were positive signs for the Royals in how they played against Manchester United last time out and they will need to take that into the weekend fixture.

Clearly, they are in a fairly desperate situation and everyone connected to Reading will hope Ejaria is one of a few January additions.
