Last season saw Sunderland come agonsisingly close to an immediate return to the Championship, but an injury-time winner from Charlton Athletic at Wembley ended their hopes.

But they will be intent on going one step further this time around and confirmed their first signing of the summer over the weekend in the form of centre-back Jordan Willis.

Willis joined Jack Ross's squad on a two-year deal over the weekend on a free transfer after leaving Coventry City in the summer and it sounds like he is rather excited about the move.

Last season saw the 24-year-old make 38 League One appearances for the Sky Blues as they narrowly missed out on a place in the play-offs.

He becomes the Black Cats' third signing of the summer following the arrivals of Lee Burge and Conor McLaughlin as they look to build a squad that can win promotion back to the second-tier.
