With just two games left to play this season, Sheffield Wednesday fans will already be starting to think about next year and what that holds for the Owls.

It has been a disappointing campaign for Sheffield Wednesday.

After losing in the play-offs in both of the last two seasons, this year started with renewed optimism and a hope that they could go one better and secure a long awaited return to the top flight.

But this season has been a huge letdown and there was even some danger of relegation to League One at one point in the campaign.

Jos Luhukay will already be thinking about who to bring in this summer to improve this Sheffield Wednesday squad.

And now comes the time of the year when every manager draws up a list of players whose contracts are expiring to secure a bargain free transfer.

Here are six soon-to-be free agents that Sheffield Wednesday should consider.

It is time for Sheffield Wednesday to upgrade at right back and Andy Yiadom would be a good option.

Leeds United want the Ghana international, who currently plays for Barnsley, but the Owls should compete for his signature.

The 26-year-old is strong going forward and has previously attracted Premier League interest.

Another option at right back would be Crystal Palace defender Joel Ward.

The 28-year-old is comfortable anywhere across the back four and can even play in midfield, adding versatility to Luhukay's options.

With 161 Premier League appearances under his belt, Ward would be a perfect experienced addition if the Eagles do not renew his contract.

Alternatively, Sheffield Wednesday could look to sign Stoke City's Glen Johnson on a free.

The 33-year-old has 357 Premier League appearances to his name with West Ham United, Chelsea, Portsmouth, Liverpool and Stoke.

And with 54 senior caps to his name, the former England international would be a valuable addition for his experience and he will still feel he has something to prove.

Rangers have been linked with a move for Crystal Palace midfielder James McArthur when his contract expires but Sheffield Wednesday should enter the race.

The 30-year-old has played more than 200 Premier League games in his career, making him a useful experienced option in the middle of the park.

The Scotland international is a no nonsense midfielder who would add steel and tenacity to Wednesday's ranks.

If McArthur is not available this summer, Sheffield Wednesday should look to Aron Gunnarsson to add some tough tackling into their midfield ranks.

The Iceland international is not only a superb midfield option at this level but he also possesses a devastating long throw which can terrorise defenders.

If Cardiff win promotion, they may not renew his deal and he would be a perfect addition on a free transfer.

Sheffield Wednesday have a lot of strikers on their books but there may be a summer clear-out, opening up a vacancy up top.

The Owls should look no further than Abel Hernandez if they are looking for a new striker.

The Uruguay international, who is linked with Newcastle, is prolific at Championship level and has hit a remarkable eight goals in 10 games this season since returning from a long term injury.
