Premier League side Burnley have ended their interest in Craig Dawson and Jay Rodriguez after West Brom slapped a £40m price tag on their combined head.

The Daily Mail report that Sean Dyche has moved on to fresh targets after his valuation of the players was found to be some way off West Brom's own price tag.

The report states Dyche had a £25m bid rejected for the duo two weeks ago and was willing to go to £30m in order to tempt them to Turf Moor. That is some way off West Brom's hopes for the two, with them wanting £20m for Dawson and a similar amount for Rodriguez.

Craig Dawson is currently looking for a move away from the Hawthorns, his refusal to go on their recent pre-season training trip led to him being disciplined by new boss Darren Moore.

Former Southampton man Rodriguez scored seven times in the top flight for the Baggies last season and is still interesting Crystal Palace and Bournemouth, although he's also happy to remain at the Hawthorns.

The Verdict

You can understand West Brom's reticence to selling Jay Rodriguez, but surely they need to move Craig Dawson on. If he doesn't want to be there, there's little they can do to get him playing again.

Burnley would do well to steer clear of Dawson anyway, any player who effectively goes on strike isn't worth the risk to team morale.
