Andy Yiadom’s proposed move from Championship side Barnsley to Premier League outfit Huddersfield Town ‘will not happen in this window’, according to Terriers boss David Wagner via The Yorkshire Post’s Richard Sutcliffe on Twitter.

25-year-old Yiadom only moved to Oakwell last year after a four-year stint with Barnet, and has proven his Championship capabilities in his one and so far only season at second tier level thus far.

The Ghana international, who earned his first cap for his country earlier this year to underline his meteoric rise, laid on three assists in 32 league appearances for Paul Heckingbottom’s side to help them to a 17th place finish upon their return to the second tier.

And his excellent efforts at full-back for the Tykes has attracted interest from Wagner’s Huddersfield over the summer, and with just a year left to run on his current deal at Oakwell, a move looked set to be in the offing.

However, the Terriers chief has confirmed that the deal is off, saying: ‘The deal is dead, it will not happen in this window.’

These comments are sure to intrigue and perhaps delight Barnsley fans, who have not seen Yiadom appear for the club so far this season, with manager Heckingbottom leaving him out of the team to let him sort his future out.

And it appeared that Barnsley had prepared for Yiadom’s departure given that they earlier this week landed right-back Dimitri Cavare from Rennes, but now the two of them will compete for a first team place, and it remains to be seen if either are included for their trip to Sheffield United on Saturday.

The Verdict: It looked for all the world that Andy Yiadom would be leaving Barnsley this summer, but the longer the deal dragged on, the more doubt arose that a move may not take place.

And so it has proved, with Huddersfield manager David Wagner confirming that a deal won’t take place in this window, which is perhaps indicative that the Terriers will try their hand again in January, especially if Yiadom does not pen a new deal at Oakwell.

But for now, the 25-year-old remains a Barnsley player, and could well be welcomed back into the starting eleven for their Yorkshire derby against Sheffield United on Saturday.
