West Bromich Albion’s opening day fixture against Bolton Wanderers at the Hawthorns will be a real test for Darren Moore and his new look side.

With expectations of an immediate return to the Premier League this season by many, the Baggies might just add a couple more new faces to their squad ahead of the upcoming campaign.

With the starting goalkeeping position taken, eyes turn to the West Brom defensive line to answer for the huge influx of goals conceded last season.

Having conceded 56 goals in their 38 top flight matches, it is clear to see that a rejuvenated back four wouldn’t go amiss.

With uncertainty over the future of forward players like Salomon Rondon, who has been linked with various moves away from the Hawthorns this summer, perhaps the introduction of a new target man up front could, and should, in imminent.

The 31-year-old defender not only has years of Championship, as well as Premier League, experience to his name, but also might be looking for a chance at first team football this coming season.

With Watford strengthening their side throughout the summer, it leaves Adrian Mariappa ever more likely to not feature for Javi Gracia’s side this season.

Racking up 29 appearances for the Hornets in all competitions last season, it shows that the veteran still has what it takes to be a dominant threat in the back line consisting of a back three or back four.

Having already been linked with a move away from his current side Brighton and Hove Albion this summer, the Baggies should be considering the 29-year-old striker as a possible replacement for Rondon, if he was to leave the club.

Baldock, despite only featuring for the Seagulls on five occasions last season, has the capabilities to be a top class striker, having proven it in the Championship and League One for Brighton, as well as Bristol City and and Milton Keynes Dons over the years.

While Baldock may not be the big name striker that the Baggies faithful will be after, he certainly knows how to find the net in the second tier of English football, and could be a strong addition to Darren Moore’s starting 11.
