Burnley are unwilling to meet Bristol City's £10 million valuation of Josh Brownhill, reports The Sun.

Brownhill, 24, has been the subject of a Premier League this month. Leicester City and Sheffield United have shown an interest in the midfielder, but Burnley have looked the likeliest to land him.

In his fourth season at Ashton Gate, Brownhill has already matched his goals tally of five for the past two seasons, and has been the driving force behind his side's top-six push.

Burnley though are reportedly unwilling to match Lee Johnson's valuation of Brownhill - they've set the asking price at £10 million for the central midfielder.

He's played in all but one of the Robins' Championship fixtures this season, and after a 1-0 win at Reading last night, Johnson's side find themselves back in the top-six after a difficult festive period.

Burnley are said to be lining-up a swap deal for Brownhill. They've this week recalled Nahki Wells from his season-long loan spell at QPR with Bristol City said to have been lining-up a bid for the 29-year-old.

Talks regarding Wells' move to Ashton Gate seem to have slowed down though, and the possibility of a swap deal involving Brownhill looks to be more unlikely with each passing day.

The verdict

Brownhill is a fine player and one who Johnson will need going into the second-half of the season. But the lure of Premier League football persuades most and Brownhill may yet push for a move in the final days of the transfer window.

Bristol City have set a high asking price, but if they can agree a deal, which could possibly include Wells, we could yet see Brownhill playing in the Premier League with Burnley.
