In what has been an outstanding season so far for Huddersfield Town, David Wagner's side sits in third place, destined for a play-off position with a genuine chance of automatic promotion.

After an excellent start to the season, it was clear that Huddersfield Town would be competing near the top of the Championship.

Very few would've anticipated that Huddersfield would have a season like they are having and very few expected Huddersfield to challenge for automatic promotion at this stage of the season.

A combination of astute recruitment and the managerial ability of David Wagner has seen a sharp increase in the quality of players as well as constantly improving players who were already at the club.

A drawback of Huddersfield's success this season is that it will have attracted the attention of the Premier League who may look to prise Huddersfield's prize assets away from the club - especially if they don't go up.

FLW writer Elliott Wheat-Bowen looks at two Huddersfield stars who will be in the top-flight before you know it.

Philip Billing

As one of the brightest young talents in the entirety of the Football League, the Danish midfielder has developed tenfold under David Wagner's management.

As one of the most highly rated players in Huddersfield's academy, he had been criminally underused and mismanaged by previous managers which has seen his development stutter.

However, with David Wagner's reputation of developing young talented players, it has come as no surprise to see Philip Billing progress significantly.

At the start of the season, Philip Billing was used extremely sparingly as David Wagner managed the Danish midfielder and the midfielder's expectations very carefully.

However, an improvement in the defensive side of his game has seen Billing become increasingly utilised by David Wagner.

The well-rounded midfielder stood out in the two games against Manchester City where he looked more than comfortable playing amongst Premier League opposition.

After West Brom and Crystal Palace showed some interest in January, the interest in Billing is going to continue to intensify with potentially top six Premier League sides attempting to prise the Danish midfielder away from the West Yorkshire side.

Huddersfield have done well this season to keep their star players at the club, however, if an eight-figure bid is submitted then Philip Billing will be Premier League bound and in the top flight before you know it.

Elias Kachunga

After being unveiled as a Huddersfield Town player on the night of their kit reveal, Elias Kachunga came as an unknown quantity.

The former German Under 21 international spent his most prolific spell at S.C Paderborn before joining Bundesliga outfit Ingolstadt.

However, having failed to impress, David Wagner offered Elias Kachunga an escape to his Huddersfield Town side which was beginning to forge a clear German identity.

There was some scepticism from Germany about Elias Kachunga's move to England with most expecting him to flop like he did at Ingolstadt.

However, after scoring on his debut, Elias Kachunga went from strength to strength as he gained the confidence which saw him as such a prolific goalscorer at Paderborn.

Elias Kachunga has been mightily impressive as he is currently Huddersfield's top goalscorer in the Championship with ten goals despite operating in an unorthodox right wing position..

Huddersfield do have a deal in place which sees them have the option of signing Kachunga for £1.5m in the summer, however, if the 24-year-old striker's prolific form continues until the end of the season, Kachunga could well be Premier League bound, with or without Huddersfield Town.
