Kalvin Phillips is missing for Leeds United this evening at Middlesbrough, with the midfielder replaced by Gaetano Berardi in the starting XI.

Leeds were sweating on the fitness of their talisman heading into this fixture, and a dead calf has ruled him out in the end, with Berardi coming in as Marcelo Bielsa’s only change from the weekend win over Reading.

It remains to be seen what system Leeds will play, but there’s a chance it could be a 3-3-1-3 that we’ve seen in the past when Phillips hasn’t been available.

As our graphic shows, Kiko Casilla is in goal, whilst Berardi could come into a three-man defence alongside Ben White and Liam Cooper, with the former given licence then to step into the midfield.

Stuart Dallas and Luke Ayling are the full-backs, with more pressure on Mateusz Klich to play as almost a lone central midfielder.

Pablo Hernandez will be Bielsa’s No.10, with Jack Harrison and Helder Costa continuing on the left and right respectively.

Patrick Bamford leads the line, with Bielsa needing 90 minutes from the ex-Boro man, with Jean-Kevin Augustin not making the bench and still awaiting his full debut for the Whites.

Oliver Casey, Jordan Stevens and Jamie Shackleton are amongst the youngsters on Bielsa’s bench.
