Derby County boss Phillip Cocu has admitted that the chances of Harry Wilson returning to the club are slim.

The Liverpool winger is available for a transfer before tomorrow's deadline and it had been reported that the Rams were leading the chase for the player.

However, whilst Cocu was full of admiration for the ability the Welsh international has, he explained to The Athletic reporter Ryan Conway that he doesn't feel a deal will happen.

"He’s a great player. It’d be great, he’s a fantastic player but I think it’ll be very complicated to get him in, in these circumstances at the club. I don’t think it’ll happen. Maybe things will change, but at this stage it’s very unlikely."

It has been claimed that the Premier League champions are demanding a 'substantial' loan fee for the 23-year-old which appears to be putting off potential suitors.

Should a late turnaround happen and Wilson did sign for Derby, it would be his second spell at Pride Park having shone two years ago when Frank Lampard's side reached the play-off final.

Firstly, it should be pointed out that Cocu has been known to be cautious when speaking to the press, so we shouldn't rule the possibility of Wilson signing completely out.

Having said that, his comments are pretty clear and with just over 24 hours to go until the deadline, he obviously isn't expecting much to happen.

As we know, things can change quickly and Derby fans will be hoping it does because Wilson would be an outstanding addition for any Championship club.
