Derby County manager Phillip Cocu has suggested that he is not surprised to see Jayden Bogle attracting interest from other clubs ahead of the January transfer window.

Bogle has established himself as a vital part of the Rams' defence, having broken into the side last season under Frank Lampard making 43 appearances in the Championship and helping the club reach the play-off final - and he has continued that form onto this campaign under Cocu, after recovering from an ankle injury which affected his start to the campaign.

The 19-year-old's energy and willingness to get forwards from right-back has been key to helping Derby having width in the final third, and he is able to provide quality deliveries at times when he gets into dangerous positions, and that has seen him be linked with a potential move to Premier League Burnley in January.

Can you name the last 13 Derby County players to wear the number 9 shirt?

Speaking in his press conference ahead of the Rams' trip to Reading on Saturday, Cocu suggested that he is not surprised to see Bogle attracting interest given the form he has displayed since breaking into Derby's first team, saying: "I am not surprised. I think after his six or seven-week lay-off with his ankle injury, he needed some time to get back his form.

"He is a 19-year-old modern offensive full back who gives something extra to your team.

"At this age, and the amount of games he has played, I am not surprised that there are some clubs interested in Jayden."

The Verdict

Bogle has been a key performer for the Rams over the last few months, with the defender starting the last 13 matches and helping to provide more of a threat for Derby down the right-hand side of the pitch with his overlapping runs, and Cocu's side will be very reluctant to allow him to leave the club in January.

However, give the form that Bogle has been in and the potential he has shown with his performances over the last season and a half, it is little surprise, as Cocu suggests, to see him being liked with a move to the Premier League, although the 19-year-old should be cautious about leaving Derby and not getting as much game time.

Derby will probably face a real challenge to convince Bogle to stay at the club over the next few windows if they are unable to secure promotion to the Premier League, but for now the right-back is probably best staying with the Rams at least until the end of the campaign.
