Derby County boss Phillip Cocu has revealed that defender Jayden Bogle is close to returning from injury.
The 18-year-old has been missing since picking up an ankle injury in the 0-0 draw against Swansea City on 10th of August.
Bogle broke through into the first-team under Frank Lampard last season and went on to become an integral part of the side.
The right-back made 50 appearances for the Rams in the 2018/19 campaign and provided nine assists, which was the most in the Derby squad and by any full-back or teenager in the Championship.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of Friday’s Championship clash with Cardiff City, Cocu provided an update on Bogle’s fitness.
As quoted by the club’s official Twitter account, he said: “Jayden Bogle is getting close but he needs time to train with the first team before he gets into a game situation.”
Cocu also indicated that injured duo Andre Wisdom and Craig Forsyth may feature for the under-23s against Liverpool on the weekend.
Derby have struggled under the Dutchman so far this season and are currently 19th in the Championship with just one win and six points from six games.
This is encouraging news for Rams fans as Bogle’s return should be a huge boost for the side.
Max Lowe, who is a left-back by trade, has done a solid job covering at right-back but the 18-year-old is an important creative outlet for Derby and his return should make them a better side.
Bogle had started the season well, providing an assist in his first appearance, and Derby are unbeaten in the 2019/20 campaign with him in the side.
He will be hoping he can extend that record when he returns.
