Derby County boss Phillip Cocu has revealed that defensive pair Andre Wisdom and Craig Forsyth could step up their recoveries from injury by featuring against Liverpool for the U23 side this weekend.
Right-sided defender Wisdom, who previously played for the Reds, missed pre-season with a knee injury and last kicked a ball for the Rams way back in March, although he was out of favour under former boss Frank Lampard for a period.
Meanwhile, left-back Forsyth suffered a serious knee injury of his own back in November 2018 and hasn’t played since.
However, Cocu told the Rams media that there was good news on the two players, who may get a run out for the development side on Saturday.

Of course, that doesn’t mean a first-team return is imminent, with the duo likely to play several times for the U23s before they are considered ready for a Championship clash.
The east Midlands outfit are back in action against Cardiff on Friday night and play five games before the October international break, which may be a more realistic time frame for Wisdom and Forsyth to get back into the fold with the senior group.
This is good news for Derby, particularly with Wisdom as they are very short at right-back this season, with Max Lowe having to fill in an unnatural position when Jayden Bogle has been out.
It’s also fantastic news for the players. They have both had long lay-offs and this will be a big moment for them as they finally get back out on to the pitch.
So, hopefully everything goes smoothly for them this weekend and they can keep progressing over the coming weeks.
