Derby County boss Phillip Cocu has revealed that Jack Marriott suffered a quad injury that meant he was unable to be involved in the defeat against Millwall on Saturday.

The striker has endured a tough season so far with many of his 16 Championship appearances coming from the bench but he wasn't in the 18 against the Lions.

And, he was missed, with the Rams pretty toothless against Gary Rowett's side as they fell to a 1-0 defeat.

However, Cocu explained to Derbyshire Live that the ex-Peterborough man has an injury, although he revealed it's not too serious.

"He has a grade one muscle injury, the quad. I don't rule him out for Saturday, but it will mean he has to be part of the team session on Thursday. We are not having a lot of luck with injuries."

Following that, it appears it will be a case of waiting to see whether he can be involved this weekend, with the struggling Rams set to take on Reading at the Madejski Stadium, looking to end a five-game winless run.

The verdict

This is good news for Derby as even though he has struggled this season, Marriott is a threat with his ability to get in behind and at his best he is a goalscorer.

So, Derby need him back firing and he would've been a decent option from the bench on Saturday.

Therefore, Cocu will hope to have him back for the Royals fixture which is a huge game for Derby.
