Derby County manager Phillip Cocu has suggested that the Rams are looking to bring in a couple of players during the January window.

The East Midlands outfit have endured an inconsistent start to the Championship season, which has been reflected by the differences in their home and away form, with Derby winning five of their last six matches at Pride Park but losing their last four and winning just once on their travels in the league.

Cocu’s side have at times this season been lacking in creativity, especially away from home, whilst they are also light in numbers at centre half.

QUIZ: Do you know where these 15 ex-Derby players are playing now?

Speaking to Derbyshire Live ahead of the Rams’ trip to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, Cocu suggested that Derby have been planning for the transfer window and they are prepared to bring their targets into the club.

"We always try to look ahead for January, and even for summer, so that is not something from the last few weeks. We sit down on a regular basis with the recruitment and scouting department to look at players, and in positions we think we need players or if players could leave.

"At the moment, I think one or two (players being signed), yes. But like I said, players can leave also and then you have to be ready to anticipate and not be caught by surprise in the short window."

The side are currently six points behind the play-off places ahead of the weekend fixtures.

The Verdict

Cocu’s comments suggest that the club could be in store for a positive January window, with the Rams seemingly confident that they will be able to bring in the players that they have identified during the first few months of the campaign.

It is vital that Derby manage to end the transfer with a stronger squad than they currently have, with the Rams a little short on numbers and quality in the centre of defence, and looking short of players who can create chances in the final third of the field.

It will also be interesting to see which players, if any, leave the club in the winter window and how Derby go about replacing them, but Cocu seems to suggest that the club will have a plan in place to replace any players who leave in the window.
