Sunderland boss Phil Parkinson has revealed that Bailey Wright is player on his radar as he looks to strengthen his squad this month.

After a tough start to life as Black Cats manager, things have really picked up in recent weeks. A hard-fought 1-0 win at MK Dons yesterday lifted Sunderland into the top six and they have now won three games in a row.

Despite that, bringing in new players is a priority and Parkinson told the Sunderland Echo that Bristol City's Bailey Wright is someone that he wants to sign.

"He is one player we have looked at. We want to make sure we have the squad as strong as possible."

The 27-year-old Australian international has struggled for regular football with the Robins over the past 18 months and has made just three appearances in the league this season.

Therefore, he could be open to a move and he would bring experience of winning promotion at this level, having helped Preston North End to the second tier in the past.

The verdict

This would be a very smart signing for Sunderland and the fact that Parkinson is admitting an interest suggest this may be at an advanced stage.

Wright is a very solid defender and the fact he can play at right-back or centre-back is an added bonus.

So, this would be a good addition if the Wearside outfit can pull it off and it could be a very busy 12 days at the Stadium of Light as Parkinson reshapes his squad.
