Jack Ross has wasted no time in returning to football management, with the 43-year-old being appointed as Hibernian's new manager recently.

Ross was sacked as Sunderland manager in October after a slow start to this year's league campaign in League One, but it's safe to say that his successor hasn't fared much better.

Phil Parkinson has won just two games in charge since taking over at the Stadium of Light, and will be keen to turn their poor run of form around at the earliest of opportunities.

It has previously been reported by The Sun on Sunday (17/11, page 67), that Ross is keen to bring Sunderland coach John Potter with him to Hibernian after previously working with him at Sunderland in his time with the club.

Speaking in a pre-match press conference ahead of Sunderland's game against Gillingham in the FA Cup First Round Replay, Phil Parkinson admitted that there has been contact between them and Hibernian over a deal for Potter.

"There has been contact between Hibs and Sunderland about John Potter. There is the obvious lure of going back to Scotland for John and if he does go, we will wish him all the best."

Ross will be keen to make an instant impact with Hibernian, with the Scottish outfit currently sat () in the Scottish Premier League after a disappointing start to the season.

The Verdict:

It seems as though Parkinson is resigned to losing Potter to Hibernian.

This isn't a surprise to be honest though, as Potter has previously worked with Ross, and I thought it would only be a matter of time before he rejoined Ross up in Scotland.

It gives Parkinson the opportunity to bring in another coach to add another dimension to his setup at the Stadium of Light.

The Sunderland boss needs to see improvement from his side at the earliest of opportunities, otherwise the fans will turn quickly on him.
