Phil Parkinson annoyed with fans who are moaning about Bolton Wanderers player

Bolton scored a late equaliser to draw 1-1 away at Sheffield Wednesday in their last Championship outing.

This was the Trotters’ second consecutive away draw in their fight against relegation.

Both of those draws were key because they were against teams around them with the other team being Reading.

The game against Wednesday looked bleak because they conceded in the 78th minute from a George Boyd shot. H

owever, they rallied and put pressure on in the latter stages of the match which was rewarded with a 92nd minute header from veteran striker Aaron Wilbraham.

He hasn’t been popular with the fans since he joined in the summer, though, and Phil Parkinson talked after the match about how the reaction of the fans towards Wilbraham frustrated him especially because of how much the veteran helped behind the scenes.

Here’s what he had to say to the official Bolton Wanderers site: “Wilbraham has waited so long for a moment like that and it frustrates me that he’s gotten a bit of criticism along the way because he’s hardly had any game time.

He’s played against Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday in the cup and we won both games and he’s been a tremendous role model around the training ground for our younger players too, none more so than Gary Madine.

The Verdict

Parkinson is right to support his player especially after a key contribution. However, it’s hard for fans to know what goes off behind the scenes so judgement of players is mostly limited to what they do on the pitch.

This goal should go a long way to improving his reputation among the fans especially because it could be crucial in keeping them in the division.
