Samuel Saiz could still return to Leeds United in the summer, with Getafe under no obligation to turn the loan into a permanent deal.

The 28-year-old attacking midfielder left the Whites for the La Liga side in January, with the transfer a real shock at the time given Leeds' position.

However, Saiz wanted to move but things haven't really gone to plan for him since.

He has managed just six appearances in the league since returning to Spain and has failed to find the net.

In fairness, the lack of game time is understandable as Saiz joined a side that were flying and Getafe are currently fourth in the league and surprisingly in the mix for Champions League football next season.

Nevertheless, they may not take the option to bring in the player given how he has struggled to make an impact, with Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay confirming it wasn't part of the deal on Twitter.

If that is the case, Saiz would return to Elland Road in the summer and could potentially be part of the plans for the next campaign.

The Verdict

Saiz may be regretting the move now as he is not playing anywhere near as much as he would've hoped.

Even though he won't command a huge fee, Getafe aren't in a position where they will be spending decent sums on squad players.

So, you would suggest that unless things pick up he will be a Leeds player in the summer and it will be very interesting to see if he can integrate back into the squad and with the fans after his surprising exit.
