Respected journalist Phil Hay has confirmed that Leeds are still going after four different players.

Responding to a tweet asking whether there were any updates for Leeds fans, Hay confirmed that the club still want Helder Costa, Ben White, Jack Harrison and Ryan Kent.

He also described rumours of Gigi Buffon joining the club as "comedy" - crushing the hearts of a few Leeds fans who dreamt of having Buffon between the sticks.

Within the tweet, Hay also confirmed that were looking at loan deals as opposed to full time deals for the players.

Harrison, of course, spent last season on loan with Leeds from Manchester City, scoring four goals and playing consistently under Marcelo Bielsa.

White, a Brighton centre-back, has had loan spells with Newport and Peterborough over the last two seasons, with his game consistently improving.

Kent and Costa would arrive as options on the wing from Liverpool and Wolves respectively, with the latter helping the Molineux club to promotion in 2018.

The Verdict

Leeds will be hoping to crack on with these potential transfers sooner rather than later. They will be challenged to many of  these signings but they represent the positions they need to replace. Wingers are needed at Elland Road and so is a back up centre-back and keeper.

If Leeds can pick up these four, it will really boost their options going into next season and will give them some more strength in depth. It would make far more sense getting in younger, hungry players such as these than blowing a lot of their wage budget on a goalkeeper like Buffon.

Leeds do not have a bottomless pit of cash and they need to spend it wisely if they are to get promoted next season.
