Phil Hay has suggested that Leeds United could look to sign Said Benrahma from Brentford this summer, if the Bees are to remain in the Championship for another year.

Leeds' promotion to the Premier League was confirmed on Friday following West Brom's 2-1 defeat to Huddersfield, and the next day, they were crowned as Champions following Brentford's 1-0 defeat to Stoke.

This leaves the race for second place still wide open, with Brentford looking to leapfrog Albion with a win over Barnsley this Wednesday.

Did these 12 ex-Leeds United players score more or less than 20 goals during their time at Elland Road?

Benrahma has been a hugely influential player for Brentford this season, with the Algerian establishing himself as arguably the best player in the Championship.

The 24-year-old has scored 17 goals and registered nine assists for the Bees, scoring seven goals since the season's restart.

Chelsea and Arsenal have previously been linked with moves for the playmaker, who looks destined to the move to the Premier League with or without Brentford in 2020/21.

Speaking on the Athletic's Q&A, Hay has revealed that Leeds 'like' Benrahma, and that he wouldn't rule out a potential move for the Algerian if Brentford don't win promotion this term.

He said: "I suspect Leeds would love to have a dabble with Benrahma if Brentford don't go up. Like loads of clubs, they naturally like Benrahma. If Brentford stay down then I wouldn't rule that one out."

The Verdict

This would undoubtedly be a massive signing for Leeds as they prepare to embark on life back in the Premier League.

Benrahma oozes class and he would seamlessly fit right into life in the Premier League, and I think he'd be an excellent signing for a top-six chasing side.

If Leeds could get him, then it would be seriously impressive and a massive statement of intent given the calibre of clubs previously linked.
