Phil Hay has stated he hasn’t had any reliable confirmation that Leeds United will be chasing a deal for Joe Hart this summer, but teased another Premier League goalkeeper could be on the radar.

Leeds have significant doubts over the future of Kiko Casilla, given his eight game suspension after racism charges against him were proven.

If he departs there’s a need for a senior goalkeeping addition, which has seen reports from Football Insider emerge linking the club with Hart, who is on the fringe of the first-team at Burnley.

Quiz: Have Leeds United done these 15 things in the last 10 years? – Yes or no?

On the back of those reports, Hay as told his Q&A in The Athletic he’s not convinced by the Hart link, with another Premier League goalkeeper, who remained unnamed, has been mentioned.

That goalkeeper will suit Marcelo Bielsa’s style of play that little bit more, with the Argentine searching for a No.1 comfortable in possession above anything else.

Illan Meslier currently holds the No.1 shirt at Elland Road on the back of Casilla’s suspension, with the French under-21 international impressing and keeping clean sheets against Hull City and Huddersfield Town.

Those results helped Leeds to the top of the Championship table, with only nine games separating the Whites from a Premier League return.

The Verdict

Hart really doesn’t fit the description with what Bielsa wants in terms of a goalkeeper, not least because of his ability in possession.

Other goalkeepers will be available that are like Casilla, which is clearly Bielsa’s preference.

Watching this particular part of the summer transfer window will be interesting.
