Leeds United will be looking to have a productive summer this time around in order to build on their challenge for promotion in 2018/19.

Ultimately, things blew up in their face spectacularly against Derby but for much of the campaign the Whites were the team to beat.

As well as sorting players they want to sign, though, they also need to address the futures of players that they might want to let go - with speculation rife over several names.

Phil Hay, in his latest Yorkshire Evening Post piece, then, has been commenting on exactly that in regards to Kiko Casilla and Gaetano Berardi.

Both had shockers in the 2nd leg with the Rams, but Hay expects both to be at the club for next season as they look to go again.

Citing Casilla, Hay mentions that he has a contract well into the next decade, it would be a surprise to get rid of him in this window - but he might have to prove himself once more.

On Berardi, meanwhile, Hay refers to the fact that Bielsa's fondness of the defender could see him stay put for 2019/20:

"Berardi’s contract is up next summer and Leeds have not yet spoken to him about an extension. Bielsa’s opinion of the Swiss is so high that he might be willing to look past a painfully expensive dismissal."

The Verdict

Casilla had a shocker against the Rams but has also shown some decent flashes since arriving and is on a long-term deal so getting rid would not make much sense this summer.

Berardi, meanwhile, did actually have a good season despite what happened in the 2nd leg and may well have earned a stay of execution for now - especially if, as said, Bielsa rates him highly.
