Wigan Athletic midfielder, Sean McGurk, remains on the Leeds United radar and is seemingly central to any business the Premier League side look to do this winter.

Leeds are expecting a quiet January transfer window in terms of incomings, with Marcelo Bielsa's first-team squad settled and well on course to secure a second season in the Premier League.

However, the wide scouting network at Leeds means that January transfers are not quite off the table, particularly when it comes to strengthening the club's under-23 setup.

20 quiz questions about Wigan Athletic’s current squad that Latics fans should be getting correct

As per a report from Phil Hay in The Athletic this morning, any deals Leeds do this January are likely to be on 'prospects' rather than first-team players. The report goes on to name McGurk at Wigan as someone Leeds could well lay their focus on.

Interest in McGurk has been long-standing at Elland Road, but back in the summer Leeds' focus was on a different Wigan player, Joe Gelhardt.

He signed and is currently thriving in Leeds' under-23s setup alongside fellow attacking addition, Sam Greenwood.

Leeds also landed Cody Drameh at Fulham back in the summer, with Victor Orta's focus as heavy on the under-23s as it was on the first-team.

The Verdict

Interest in McGurk just isn't going away right now.

Leeds clearly rate the 17-year-old and want to add him to their pool of talent at Thorp Arch.

As reports like this one continue to materialise, it feels like only a matter of time before Leeds it the gas in their attempts to land the midfielder.

It might be this January, it might be the summer or it might even be later in McGurk's career. However, something feels like it is going to eventually give here.
