Phil Hay has pointed to Yan Couto as someone who Leeds United could pursue a deal for in the summer, with the Manchester City man’s future ‘one to keep an eye on’.

Leeds are hoping that they are planning for life back in the Premier League next season, with Marcelo Bielsa’s side top of the Championship table and just nine games away from promotion (should things be concluded).

It is tough to look at the summer transfer window given so much is at stake in terms of promotion, but Phil Hay has revealed in The Athletic’s latest Q&A that Couto is a player to watch in terms of arrivals at Elland Road in the summer.

Quiz: Have Leeds United done these 15 things in the last 10 years? – Yes or no?

Couto is a right-sided player that City announced a deal for in early March.

In terms of his current career, Couto has impressed on the international stage for Brazil’s under-17 side.

Leeds have previously signed Jack Harrison on loan from City, with Marcelo Bielsa doing wonders for the 23-year-old’s development.

Harrison has scored five goals and registered seven assists for Leeds this season, establishing himself in the starting XI on the back of an inconsistent first loan spell.

The Verdict

If you look at Leeds squad, they aren’t short of players to occupy the right-side.

Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas are brilliant right-back options, whilst Helder Costa is the main man on the right-wing.

However, Couto is a talent and he’s on the books at City for a very good reason.

After the work Leeds have done with Harrison, it’s easy to see why all parties could be open to another link up.
