It has been reported that Leeds United will point to their TV pulling power if they have to debate why they should be promoted to the Premier League on sporting merit.

Leeds currently sit top of the Championship table with nine games of the season remaining. They hold a point advantage over West Brom and sit seven points clear of Fulham in third, leaving Marcelo Bielsa’s side heavy favourites to convert a favourable position into Premier League football.

However, the footballing world has been brought to a standstill as public safety takes priority, with a ball not kicked in the EFL since the opening weekend of March.

Whilst The Athletic report that Leeds are pushing for the remaining nine games to be played to see if they can secure promotion the ‘right’ way, the club are ready to fight for their place in the Premier League on sporting merit, should the season be unable to conclude.

And, that report from Phil Hay details how the Whites will lean on their TV pulling power if discussions are held over a place in the Premier League next season, with the Whites having pulled huge TV audiences over the years in the EFL.

The Verdict

Their TV pulling power puts Leeds in a unique position here, with the Whites able to back up that they are a huge pull.

We all know how important the television rights are to the Premier League and adding Leeds to the mix only makes things more lucrative.

The hope will be that the season will conclude, but if it isn’t, you’d imagine Leeds would feel confident of promotion on sporting merit, with this one of many factors in their favour.
