Leeds United are edging closer to completing the signing of Carlisle midfielder, Liam McCarron according to journalist, Phil Hay.

It's unlikely that McCarron will be forcing his way into the Leeds first-team anytime soon, but he'll certainly be one to watch for the future.

The 18-year-old made 16 appearances for Carlisle last season as they finished 11th in the League Two table.

It had previously been reported by the Daily Mail that Leeds were set to table an offer in the region of £250,000 to sign the youngster.

It seems they've made swift progress in negotiations with the League Two club, and will be hoping that he can add something to the Leeds under 23's team, who have been impressive themselves in the last few months.

Wolves and Sheffield United has also been interested in signing McCarron, but it appears as though Leeds have reached an agreement to beat Premier League clubs to land his signature.

In a previous interview with the News and Star, Carlisle boss, Steven Pressley admitted that he was expecting McCarron to leave the club in the near future, and it appears Leeds have won the race to sign him ahead of the new season, which gets underway in August.

“The club are in quite progressed talks with several clubs. I believe it is quite far down the line and something might happen quite imminently."

The Verdict:

This is a smart bit of business by the Whites.

McCarron was impressive for Carlisle last season and I think that he could be an excellent player to have for Leeds in the future.

He'll work under Carlos Corberan next season with the Leeds youth teams, and he is a player with a bright future ahead of him if his performances from last year's campaign are anything to go by.
